Most people affected by GSS are between 35 and 55 years old.

- Clumsiness
- Unsteadiness
- Lack of balance
- Difficulty walking
- Dystarthria (slurred speech)
- Spasticity (rigid muscle tone)
- Nystagmus (involuntary eye movements)
- Worsened reflexes
- Difficulty controlling movements in general
- Deafness
- Blindness
- Symptoms that resemble Parkinson's Disease.
